About this work
A large flower head, read as a sunflower, occupies the center of the square canvas, its dark seed-disc built from a cracked lattice pattern surrounded by pale, fraying petal shapes that blur into the cream background. No stem, leaves or setting are shown, so the flower reads as a close, almost microscopic study of its own structure.
Thick, cracked impasto and scratched incisions form the textured disc, moving from near-black at the core through ochre and olive to the surrounding white ground, with thin drips streaking down from the bottom edge. The heavy, worked surface and dry brushwork give the image a raw, weathered quality, closer to eroded stone than to a delicate bloom.
