About this work
The canvas is divided into irregular rectangular panels in varying tones of cream, taupe, grey, and near-black, arranged like a loose grid or window frame. Within one pale grey square, two thin dark twigs cross beside a small rounded orange-red shape, the only clear representational detail in an otherwise non-objective arrangement of blocks and bands.
Thick impasto and scraped, plaster-like surfaces build up the neutral palette, with visible tool marks, cracks, and ridges giving the panels a weathered, tactile relief. The muted earth tones and restrained single accent of red create a quiet, meditative rhythm. The overall effect is spare and textural, closer to abstract relief than to landscape or still life.
