About this work
A tall antique mirror on a wooden dressing table reflects a hazy view of a snow-covered riverbank and bridge through a window. In front of it stand a green jar bristling with paintbrushes, a wooden palette dabbed with red, blue and yellow paint, several small glass bottles, and a white cloth draped over the table's edge.
Muted blue-greys and warm browns dominate, broken by small bursts of pure color in the paint and bottles. Brushwork is loose and dabbed, especially in the reflected view, giving the scene a soft, hazy shimmer and an intimate, reflective calm.
