About this work
Seen from an elevated vantage across a snow-covered riverside park, the golden spire and dark domes of the Peter and Paul Cathedral rise above the fortress walls under a pale evening sky. A small domed pavilion, rows of bare trees, parked cars, and tiny figures with a dog cross the snowy foreground, while smoke drifts from distant chimneys.
Soft yellow-green and rose tones wash the sky and snow, set against the cool grey-blue silhouette of the fortress. Loose, fluid brushwork keeps the architecture legible while suggesting the chill haze of a winter afternoon, giving the cityscape a quiet, wistful calm.
