About this work
A broad, elongated view stretches across a riverbank in early spring, with low hills and a scattering of bare trees along the shoreline. A small building and a faint cluster of forms emerge on the hazy horizon, while patches of thawing ground and water occupy the foreground.
The scene dissolves into soft strokes of grey, lilac and pale ochre, with sky and land barely distinguished in the enveloping haze. Scratched, textured marks suggest branches and reeds without defining them sharply, producing a quiet, dreamlike stillness.
