About this work
A flowering shrub with pink, red, and white blossoms and green leaves rises in the foreground before a low sandy shore; beyond it a wide, pale gulf stretches toward a barely visible far bank, with two tiny figures seated on the beach at right, while overhead a hazy sun sends soft radiating strokes of light across the sky.
The palette is almost monochrome pastel—pale pinks, creams, and grays—broken only by the saturated color of the flowers; thick, textured strokes build the blossoms while thin veils of paint describe sky and water, giving the whole scene a soft, hazy, dreamlike quality.
