About this work
A small stream curves through the center of the composition, crossed by a rutted dirt track that fords the water between fallen logs and brush on the bank. Willow and other deciduous trees, just coming into leaf, rise on both sides and lean over the water, their trunks and branches doubled in the calm reflection below.
Fresh spring greens dominate the palette, set against a pale, luminous sky and warmer earth tones along the banks. Loose, textured brushwork captures dappled light filtering through new leaves, and the mirrored water lends the scene a still, dreamy calm.
