About this work
The nude male body bends sharply backward, spine arching, one arm raised above the head while the legs fold beneath the torso, the whole figure isolated against an undefined, shadowy backdrop.
Warm ochre and umber tones dissolve into near-black shadow, against which the pale flesh is modeled with strong, directional light that traces every rib and tendon. Loose, smoky brushwork surrounds a tightly rendered figure, producing a tense, dramatic charge.
