About this work
Two nude women kneel in dark water, one hunched with her knees pulled to her chest and hands at her face, the other cradling a small child against her body. Above them a huge winged, beaked creature glides amid smaller bird-headed forms and a scatter of fish fill the water below.
Fine etched lines pick out pale skin, feathers, and scales against an inked black-to-teal ground, with the creatures rendered in the same delicate hatching as the women so all seem part of one submerged world. The hushed, muted palette and drifting composition give the scene a quiet, melancholic undertow.
