About this work
Viewed close to the waterline, a stone bridge with a lamppost and iron railing curves away toward a distant embankment and cluster of low buildings. Two seagulls skim just above the choppy river surface, and a massive round pier foundation anchors the bridge at the center of the composition.
The palette is built almost entirely from cool blues and greys, with warm ochre notes reserved for the distant shoreline. Broad, fluid brushstrokes describe the rippling water and softly clouded sky, creating a still, muted atmosphere with only the birds' motion breaking the quiet.
