About this work
Rows of weathered timber piles rise from the Neva's shallows, their dark verticals repeated in wavering reflections across a stretch of sun-struck water. A long stone embankment curves along the right bank toward a low, multi-arched bridge, with the hazy outline of the city beyond.
Broken strokes of white, blue and lavender capture sunlight scattering off the ripples, while the embankment is built from warmer ochre and rose tones. Thick, confident brushwork and a high-key palette give the surface a shimmering, restless energy, typical of quick outdoor observation on a bright day.
