About this work
Jagged snow-covered peaks fill the upper half of the composition, giving way to a sunlit ochre valley threaded by a winding path. Below, dense dark pine and fir trees crowd the slopes, and a small cluster of hikers in pink and red clothing moves along a trail through the undergrowth toward patches of remaining snow in the foreground.
Painted in loose, confident strokes, the canvas sets the cool blues and whites of the glaciers against the warm ochres and greens of the lower slopes.
