About this work
A large closed-eyed marble head with elaborately carved wavy hair dominates the lower left, its calm profile echoed by smaller isolated fragments scattered across an otherwise empty cream field: a hand, a partial chin and jaw, a hint of a second face, and a cluster of loose curls. Each fragment hangs disconnected in space, with thin vertical drip marks trailing downward beneath them like dust or tears.
Rendered in grisaille tones of ivory, grey and warm ochre that mimic aged marble, with meticulous academic modeling of stone folds and drapery. The sparse, incomplete arrangement and delicate paint drips give the composition a dreamlike, elegiac quality, as though a classical sculpture were slowly dissolving into memory.
