About this work
Transparent, superimposed planes combine an arcaded stone gallery, bare winter trees, a red shop sign, and a busy street with cars and pedestrians. Two pale, ghostly nude figures stand within the composition, one at center and one at right, as if seen reflected in glass alongside the surrounding architecture and traffic.
Cool blue-greys and pale ochre in the archway dominate a palette built from thin, overlapping glazes that let each layer show through the next. The multiple-exposure-like layering and dissolving edges give the scene a hazy, dreamlike disorientation, as though the city and its window reflections have merged into one image.
