About this work
A nude woman reclines across the lower half of the sheet, one leg extended toward the bottom corner and her torso twisted back toward the viewer, drawn in continuous open contour with minimal shading. Behind her, two clothed figures wearing hats stand close together in animated conversation, their forms reduced to quick angular strokes.
The drawing is executed in black Indian ink with a dry, splintering brush line for the background figures and smoother, more fluid contour for the reclining nude, with ink blots and spatter pooling near her legs. The economy of line and the contrast between loose figure and jagged background give the sheet a spontaneous, sketch-like immediacy.
