About this work
Two dark sailboat masts and rigging rise from a cluster of moored boats along a hazy waterline, with a warm orange patch of reflected light breaking through the fog on the water's surface. The horizon dissolves into a pale, atmospheric sky, leaving the harbor structures as the only solid forms in an otherwise soft, indistinct expanse of water and mist.
The palette knife and brush work in thick, textured strokes across a muted range of taupe, cream, gray-green, and ochre, with touches of orange and white built up in heavy impasto. Loose, foggy brushwork blurs edges throughout, giving the harbor a hushed, weather-softened feel typical of an overcast coastal morning.
