About this work
A single-story house with a red tiled roof anchors the composition, framed by dark green trees on either side. Several figures stroll along the path before it, among them a woman in a blue coat and pink scarf at the right; a small car is parked at the left, and a scatter of black birds wheels across the pink sky above the roofline.
Loose ink contours are washed over with quick strokes of watercolor - greens for foliage, orange and red accents on the roof and a passerby's coat, blue-grey for sky - leaving patches of bare paper as light. The rapid, spontaneous handling and the small figures scattered across the scene give the sketch an animated, open-air freshness.
