About this work
Two dark, roughly brushed figures sit hunched over pages of white sheet music, rendered as loose silhouettes against a hot pink-red ground. Behind them a row of small distant figures lines up as if queuing, while overhead a cluster of black-ringed orange and yellow discs, suggesting drums, cymbals, or stage lamps, hovers beneath a heavy black beam.
Paint is applied with rapid, calligraphic strokes and spatters of green and yellow, leaving raw canvas texture visible beneath the pigment. The palette of scorched reds, blacks, and ochres, combined with the frantic mark-making, creates an energetic, almost combustive impression of sound and motion caught mid-rehearsal.
