About this work
A slope thick with autumn trees in deep orange, red and yellow fills most of the composition, with a small dark-roofed house tucked among the foliage at right and green undergrowth along the lower edges; above, a heavy gray-blue sky is broken by two pale, softly glowing bands arcing down toward the treeline.
The palette sets the saturated warmth of the foliage against a cool, brooding sky, the faint light bands painted in thin, almost translucent white; loose, textured brushwork builds the mass of leaves while the sky stays smoky and soft, giving the whole scene a charged, glowing intensity.
