About this work
A heavily speckled, near-monochrome surface fills the sheet. The upper half holds pale mottled patches suggestive of smoke or crumbling masonry, with a few thin scratched lines resembling a ladder or twig. A row of short dark vertical stakes crosses the middle like a fence or planted row, and below it a solid dark rectangular mass fills the lower half, broken only by a faint pale smudge near its base.
Rendered in near-black and bone-white tones with heavy grain, the surface is built through scraping, spraying and drawn lines that read like an aged, corroded print rather than a conventional scene. Light is diffuse and smoky, contrast is stark, and the handling gives an eroded, unsettled feeling with no legible figures or specific place.
