About this work
Against a deep maroon-brown field, a pale, roughly gabled form sits left of center, its triangular roof and blocky walls suggested by broad strokes of white and grey. A curved white arc curls beneath and beside it like a rocking base, while dark diagonal strokes and thin vertical lines cut across the surrounding darkness.
Built up with thick, dragged oil paint and scraped edges, the palette stays within a narrow range of maroon, brown, black, and off-white. Warm ochre glints break through the shadow at the right, and the loose, gestural handling gives the solitary form a brooding, enclosed presence.
