About this work
The sitter is shown from the shoulders up, head turned in near-profile with eyes lowered and lips gently closed. Her dark hair is pulled back from the face with a few loose curling strands escaping at the temple, and her bare shoulders and neck are left lightly indicated.
The warm tan of the paper is left bare to carry the flesh tones, while black and cobalt-blue pastel hatching builds the hair and a halo of shadow around the head. Blended greys model the face softly, giving the drawing a quiet, reflective calm.
