About this work
The drawing isolates a dancer's legs and lower torso in a rehearsal pose: one leg extends forward along the floor while the other rises bent above it, with the torso and drapery reduced to rapid dark scribbles at the top of the sheet. A thin horizontal line suggests a barre or floor edge crossing the composition.
Worked in black charcoal with touches of white chalk highlighting the lit planes of the legs, the study leaves the tan paper bare as a mid-tone, giving the loose, unfinished marks an immediate, sketch-like energy typical of a working rehearsal drawing.
