About this work

A cluster of pomegranates fills a chased silver bowl decorated with floral relief, set on an antique bronze stand supported by two small cherub figures. More pomegranates, whole and cut open to reveal glistening red seeds, are arranged on the dark wooden ledge to either side of the base.

Deep shadow surrounds the grouping, against which the pomegranates glow in saturated reds and oranges, their skins rendered with fine, almost photographic detail. Light falls from the upper left, catching the silver's tarnished sheen and the wet seeds, giving the composition a rich, quietly dramatic still-life presence.
