About this work
Thick black ink is massed into a roughly square block that fills most of the sheet, built from overlapping jagged, thorn-like strokes and scribbled clusters rather than any identifiable object or figure. A rougher border of loose vertical strokes frames the mass, with small pale gaps breaking through the black at the lower edge.
The ink is applied dry and heavy, dragged and scratched to build dense, overlapping layers of near-black tone with almost no gradation. The relentless, agitated mark-making and airless density of the composition create a tense, turbulent feel.
