About this work
Set against a near-black ground, ribbon-like cream and white forms sweep in from the upper left, crossing a broad curving band of deep blue. Ochre and brown veined shapes twist through the center like roots or fissures, while jagged grey-green fragments occupy the upper right and a rounded orange-red mass glows in the lower right corner.
Paint is built up in thick, cracked ridges and pooling passages, giving the surface a rough, almost geological texture. The dark ground isolates each color field, so the cream, blue and red-orange areas read as separate charged zones rather than a blended scene. Coarse, tactile brushwork and stark value contrast create an intense, brooding mood, evoking a landscape sensed rather than seen.
