About this work
The canvas is built from flat blocks of near-black and charcoal grey, broken by a bright red vertical band at left and a horizontal white strip across the middle. The white strip holds a small grid of dark perforations like a keypad or grille, plus a few loose brown and rust marks; faint letters "A-4" appear in the upper corner.
Paint is applied thickly, then scored and incised with fine scratches cutting through the dark ground, giving the surface a worked, weathered texture. The contrast of matte black, chalky white and raw red, with the sparse geometric grid, creates a tense, machine-like mood, more industrial relic than depicted scene.
