About this work
A row of weathered fishing boats, dark-hulled and pale-decked, sits moored side by side along a low wooden jetty that stretches across the composition. A wooden pier structure and stacked timber appear at the right, while flat, glassy water fills the foreground and low blue-grey hills form a distant band along the horizon.
Rendered almost entirely in soft greys, blues and muted whites, the scene is painted with quick, economical strokes that capture reflections and haze rather than fine detail. The subdued, even light and still water give the harbor a calm, quiet, slightly melancholic atmosphere.
