About this work

A wide, panoramic view shows an uninhabited beach where pale sand curves toward a cluster of large, weathered rock formations. Low waves roll in and break white against dark, algae-stained boulders at the water's edge, while a soft grey, clouded sky stretches over the whole scene with no figures or structures anywhere in sight.

Muted tones of beige sand, ochre and charcoal-grey stone, and a hazy silver sky are built with smooth, finely blended brushwork typical of tight realism. Diffused, overcast light flattens shadows and lends the coastline a hushed, still, becalmed atmosphere.
