About this work
A cluster of oak trees with full, rounded canopies occupies the middle ground, their trunks partly hidden by a band of darker green underbrush and a foreground meadow of tall, dry, straw-colored grass; smaller trees and a hedge line stretch away to both sides under an open sky.
The canopies are built from dabs of yellow, gold, and burnt orange over darker green shadow, while the grass is rendered in short, upright strokes of cream and ochre; cool grey-green touches in the sky and distance balance the warm foliage, giving the scene a mellow light.
