About this work
A band of dense, rust and umber grass stalks rises across the lower half of the canvas, their tips catching scattered dark seed heads. Above, the grass turns pale and hazy, opening onto a soft horizon where a lavender-tinted patch sits at left and a warm golden glow, broken by a dark vertical form like a post or trunk, appears at right.
Warm ochre, rust and amber dominate the lower field, cooling into lavender-grey and pale cream near the top. Thin dry-brush lines and soft, blurred passages of paint build a glowing, backlit atmosphere, giving the meadow a warm, contemplative hush.
