About this work
A small glass perfume bottle with a delicate bow-shaped stopper stands at the center of the composition, set against a blurred backdrop of vertical and horizontal bands suggesting a shelf or windowed interior. Little else is defined; forms behind the bottle dissolve into patches of warm ochre and green.
Cool turquoise, lavender, and slate greys are brushed on in broad, rapid strokes that leave the canvas weave visible, while the bottle alone is built up in thick white highlights. The loose, unresolved handling gives the still life a hazy, dreamlike atmosphere.
