Night on the canal Griboedova

A low stone bridge with a single dark arch spans a narrow canal at night, its silhouette centered between bare trees leaning in from the left bank and a row of lit buildings on the right. Streetlamps and windows glow along the far shore, their light rippling down into the black water below the arch.

The surface is built from thick, rope-like ridges of paint in deep maroon, indigo, and teal, broken by hot flecks of gold, orange, and white where the lights fall. The heavy impasto and heightened, non-naturalistic color turn the quiet embankment into a hushed, almost molten nocturne, mysterious and still.
