About this work
Several loosely defined, cloaked figures sway across a bare, pale gray ground: a tall dark form at center dissolves into trailing black drips, flanked by a rounded blue-black shape with looping white highlights and, at right, a hooded figure wrapped in rose and dark green. At far left, a thin shape topped with a red, bird-like mask watches the group.
Paint and pastel are dragged and dripped rather than blended, building the figures from smeared blacks, indigo, and slate blue against the raw canvas ground, with only small notes of red and rose breaking the cold palette. The dissolving, drip-laden edges and lack of facial detail give the dancers a spectral, unsettled presence, as if caught mid-motion in dim light.
