Night

Several pale, ghostly figures stand and crouch among dark tree trunks, their bodies rendered in luminous white and grey against a deep blue-black forest. At the center a taller silhouetted figure rises through the branches toward a thin crescent moon, while to the left a cloaked woman with green-lit drapery gestures outward and, at the right, seated pale figures merge into the undergrowth.

The palette is built almost entirely from deep teal, indigo, and black, with the figures picked out in chalky white and touches of green and rust. Thick, scumbled paint and dark vertical drips suggest tangled branches cutting across the scene like bars. The nocturnal blues and half-hidden bodies give the composition a hushed, mysterious, dreamlike atmosphere.
