About this work
The view looks out from a shaded loggia past a classical stone column toward a garden square. A large nude male statue, seen from behind on a pedestal, stands at the terrace edge above shrubs and bare autumn trees; beyond, pedestrians with umbrellas cross near a canal lined with ochre and cream buildings under a pale, clouded sky.
Muted olive, rust and grey tones dominate the palette, with patches of green and yellow foliage breaking the autumnal haze. Thick, broken brushstrokes render the statue's stone surface and the tangle of branches, while the distant architecture dissolves into soft, hazy strokes, giving the scene a quiet, reflective mood.
