About this work
Two glass vases filled with water stand side by side on a dark wooden table, each packed with narcissus blooms — mostly white-petaled flowers with orange or yellow centers, interspersed with a few fully yellow blossoms and green stems and leaves. The bouquet fills most of the canvas, set against a softly mottled grey-lavender wall.
The flowers are built up with thick, distinct dabs of white, yellow, and touches of green, giving each blossom a raised, textured presence against the flatter, thinly brushed background. Light appears to come from the front, picking out the ruffled petal edges and glass reflections. The dense, layered blooms and cool background create a fresh, quietly cheerful still life.
