About this work
A hybrid creature with a feline face, flowing curled mane and a lion's reclining body rests between two carved stone pedestals topped with globes. Behind it rise weathered classical ruins—broken columns and an archway—bathed in golden haze, while small orange blossoms grow in the grass at its paws.
The whole scene glows in amber and ochre, the creature's coat rendered as dense engraved-looking texture rather than fur, closer to metalwork or embossed leather than paint. Warm, even light gives the ruins a dreamlike glow, and the intricate patterning throughout lends the mythic subject a hushed, mysterious grandeur.
