About this work
A cluster of low white buildings with steep, tent-shaped roofs stands beneath a snow-covered tree whose bare branches arch over the yard. A red door is set into the wall at the left, and scattered garden tools or implements lean against the snowy ground in the foreground. Soft blue-grey sky fills the upper portion of the composition.
Cool whites and pale blues dominate the palette, warmed by the ochre tones of the tower's roof and the red accent of the door. Thick, textured brushwork builds up the snow's crusted surface, while looser strokes render the sky and distant walls. The overall feeling is still and quiet, a hushed winter corner of a monastery ground.
