About this work
A crowned, dark-haired woman in an elaborate patterned gown stands at center with arms raised, its train spreading into jagged, crystalline folds across the foreground. Around her, several female attendants in loose robes kneel, recline or turn away, arranged in a wide horizontal frieze that fills the canvas from edge to edge.
Nearly the entire canvas is keyed to deep malachite and teal green, broken only by touches of violet and rose in the upper corners. Thick, textured strokes build the crystalline gown while the surrounding figures dissolve into soft, smoky shadow, creating a hushed court presided over by its central sovereign.
