About this work
A haloed figure in a gold tunic and flowing teal mantle stands barefoot, one hand raised in a pointing gesture, the other held to the chest. To the upper right two more robed figures appear only as fragments, and lower down a smaller cloaked figure bends toward bare feet on rocky ground.
The ground resembles weathered plaster or aged fresco, pale and cracked, against which saturated blue, gold, and coral robes stand out. Soft, chalky brushwork and a flattened sense of space recall icon painting, lending the scene a hushed, devotional, faintly mysterious atmosphere.
