About this work
Countless small cell- and eye-shaped units, feathery fronds and radiating discs tile the surface without a single empty gap, ranging from dark pupil-like dots ringed in cream to lace-like fan shapes at upper right and a spiralling flower form left of center. The overall effect resembles a magnified coral reef or lichen colony rather than one recognizable object.
Olive green, mustard yellow, rust and warm brown dominate, each cell painted in flat color and then overlaid with its own dotted or striped pattern. The uniformly bright, shadowless surface and relentless micro-detail create a busy, vibrant, almost textile-like energy, closer to mosaic design than traditional landscape painting.
