About this work
A single moth fills the canvas frontally, wings spread in mirror symmetry, with four round eyespots in orange, purple, and black near each wing tip. Feathered antennae rise from the head, and two long, ribbon-like tails twist downward from the hindwings. The insect sits flat against a plain, unbroken green ground with no other elements in the picture.
Color is applied in smooth, flat fields - bright yellow wings, wavy pink-brown border markings, and dark-rimmed eyespots - giving the image the clarity of a scientific illustration rather than a painterly study. The yellow-green contrast and exact symmetry produce a bold, graphic effect. The isolation of the single specimen against an empty ground creates a calm, contemplative focus on pattern.
