About this work

A woman in profile, her long red hair streaming sideways as if caught in a gust, holds up one hand from which dozens of butterflies in varied colors and patterns spiral outward. A pale, voluminous cloak billows behind her, its fabric echoing the same windblown movement as her hair. A spiral tattoo marks her upper arm against a blurred forest backdrop.

Warm russet hair and cool sage-green drapery dominate the palette, set against a soft, muted woodland backdrop. The butterflies are painted in flat, graphic color against the softly blended figure, giving the image a decorative, storybook quality. The overall feeling is buoyant and whimsical, as though the woman herself is dissolving into motion and flight.
