A tall, dark trunk fills the vertical panel, its bark modeled into the faint features of a face — closed or downcast eyes and a long nose emerging from green-black shadow. Bare branches fork above like antlers, and three tiny white deer or horses are painted trotting down the length of the trunk, one above another.

Deep green and near-black define the tree-figure against a raw, splattered field of red and orange that reads as fire or dusk light, with fine dark speckling scattered across the surface. The heavy vertical brushwork and the fusion of human and tree forms give the panel a brooding, otherworldly presence.
