About this work
A cluster of pale, elongated nude bodies twist and interlock around a dark, fissured central column that reads alternately as stone, smoke or lava, limbs and torsos folding into the rock so flesh and mineral become indistinguishable. Small patches of turquoise and coral break the grey-and-flesh scheme, scattered like sparks or mineral deposits within the crevices.
Worked in fine linear contour over soft, layered washes, the piece favors delicate greys, warm ivory flesh tones and touches of blue-green, with a stippled, almost geological texture across the rock forms. The intertwining of figure and mineral produces an unsettling, mysterious transformation, more a vision of metamorphosis than a literal landscape.
