About this work
A red-orange abstracted form dominates the canvas, its limbs flattened into simplified planes, gripping a pale-green blade-like shape that cuts horizontally across the top; a dark red-black rounded mass sits lower down, read as a severed head, beside a black-and-white patterned zone at lower left and an orange fan shape in the upper right.
Built with thick, gestural strokes of red, ochre, yellow and green over a warm golden ground, the forms are pushed to near-abstraction and outlined in heavy black; the urgent brushwork and high-contrast color patches create a tense, unsettling mood in keeping with the violent subject named in the title.
