About this work
Fine vertical scratches at the top read like slender uprights or window bars against a pale ochre ground. Below them a solid, near-black trapezoid mass fills most of the lower frame, its right edge broken by a small pale rounded form and a thin upright post.
Warm sepia and umber tones run throughout, contrasting the grainy, lighter upper register with the dense, matte block below. The tooth of the paper shows through the scratched surface, and the hushed contrast between filtered light and heavy shadow gives the sheet a quiet, restrained mood.
