About this work
A patterned purple curtain hangs at left beside vertical red-striped bands and a stylized pink building with a round rose window suggesting a chapel facade. A white dove glides through the center against a glowing pink sky, above a dark green palm frond and a crenellated stone wall; below, a pale draped cloth is bunched along a taut blue cord, with a striped wooden lattice framing the bottom edge.
Flat, sharply outlined shapes and decorative border patterns replace natural perspective, and saturated pinks, reds and blues are set against muted mauve and grey passages. The layered, curtain-like framing device and symbolic motifs of dove, palm and battlement give the composition a staged, enigmatic atmosphere somewhere between theater set and allegory.
