About this work
Inside a brick-walled studio with a black-and-white checkered floor, an easel holds a canvas depicting a blue sky over a winding river and mountain gorge. A flock of white doves bursts from the painted surface into the room, wings spread, while a painter's palette with loaded brushes rests on a stool below and a metronome sits on a cabinet to the side.
Warm terracotta brick tones frame the cooler blues of the painted sky, creating a sharp contrast between the studio's interior and the illusionistic landscape. Smooth, precise brushwork renders the doves' feathers and the raking light on the brick wall, lending the scene a quiet, surreal stillness where the painted and real worlds merge.
